Animal Farm – Assessment One Chapter One According to Major, what is the cause of all the animals’ problems? Major blames the animals’ suffering solely on human beings. Mr. Jones and his men have been exploiting animals for ages, Major says, taking all of the products of their labor- eggs, milk, ect for themselves and producing nothing of value to offer the animals in return. What motto does Major give the animals? The message Major gives the animals is â€Å"Why, work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of the human race! That is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion† this message means why are all the animals doing work for the success of humans, we must rebel and stand up for ourselves. What are the commandments Major gives†¦show more content†¦They later come back as Napoleons enforcers and play a large role in Napoleons grab for power against Snowball. Snowball, on the other hand, would prefer to focus on all the animals. He wants to organize the animals into committees and teach all of them to read. How is Squealer able to convince the other animals to accept whatever Napoleon decides? Squealer explains to the rest of the animals that pigs need milk and apples in order to think well, and since the pigs’ are the brain power of Animalism, it is in everyone’s best interest for the pigs to eat the apples and drink the milk. Should the pigs’ brains fail because of a lack of apples and milk, Squealer hints, Mr. Jones might come back to take over the farm. This prospect frightens the other animals, and they agree to forgo milk and apples in the interest of the collective good. What was Snowball’s part in this battle? The Battle of Cowshed was led by Snowball, who is declared Animal Hero, First Class, and given a medal. Where is Napoleon during the battle? I think its intentionally left ambiguous. Napoleon is simply not there. There are several places he says he is afterwards; however, he takes no true active part in the battle. The key thing to note is that afterwards, he uses Squealer as his propaganda tool to let the others know of his influences during the battle. In other words he was probably hiding or watching, but in no way to participate.
